Exporting Psyllium from India: FOB Mundra vs Kandla vs JNPT
Logistics.
Port comparison for bulk psyllium buyers — freight, transit times, and vessel frequency.
India exports psyllium through three primary ports: Mundra (Gujarat), Kandla (Gujarat), and JNPT/Nhava Sheva (Maharashtra). For psyllium buyers, port selection affects freight cost, transit time to destination, and container availability. Most Unjha-based processors, including RM Psyllium, use Mundra as their primary port due to its proximity (approximately 220 km from Unjha) and high vessel frequency to Europe, the US East Coast, the Middle East, and Australia.
Mundra Port (MUND) is operated by Adani Ports and handles the highest volume of container traffic in India. Vessel frequency to major destination ports (Rotterdam, Felixstowe, New York, Jeddah, Colombo) is typically 2–4 sailings per week. Transit time to Rotterdam is approximately 20–23 days; to New York approximately 25–28 days; to Jeddah approximately 8–10 days. Kandla (INKLA) is an alternative with slightly lower port charges but less frequent services. JNPT is used primarily for buyers in southern India or where specific shipping lines offer better rates.
For CIF orders, we select the port based on your destination and the shipping line with the best rate at the time of booking. For FOB orders, you nominate the freight forwarder and we coordinate with them directly. Export documentation — commercial invoice, packing list, COA, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate — is prepared in Unjha and submitted 3–5 days before vessel loading. Share your destination port and we will provide an indicative freight quote alongside the product price.
